“I entered the Lean Out Challenge because I felt like I was a mom at a stalemate. I was working out, eating healthy (for the most part) but wasn’t shedding any of the weight around my middle and tended to feel tired an sluggish after my workouts. I also spent many of the years in my 30’s and 40’s living to the NO CARB rule. You would be skinner if you didn’t eat any carbs, is what I thought. In many conversations with Dina, Ted and Kevin, they would tell me, eat carbs, you need carbs to get the energy for the high intensity interval workouts. Good carbs, eat good carbs. I didn’t think there was such a thing. (insert smiley face) I had a hard time wrapping my head around that. So, ultimately I joined the challenge not necessarily with the goal of losing weight but mostly to learn about a new way to eat and look at food. How could I fuel my body, feel thinner and do so with eating more carbs. Crazy!
I spent much of my time during the first 30 days asking a TON of questions. Learning about the macronutrients (protein, fats and carbs) and how to eat them in the correct quantities and at the correct time to benefit my body. My results were very slow at first. I actually think in the first three weeks I only lost 2 pounds and my body fat % stayed about the same. No doubt I was getting a bit frustrated but decided to stick with it. I think it was week 4 and 5 where I started to see the results. My body was changing (for the better), I started to lose the fat and pounds and I was eating more that I was before I started the challenge. No kidding! Best of all, I started believing what they were telling me. Carbs are ok. In fact, I eat more carbs now (sweet potatoes, brown rice, oatmeal, ezekiel bread/tortilla’s) than I have in the past ten years. I also have a keener sense of what is the correct portion size and how to change up the meal routine so things don’t get boring. It has taken some time but has been a fun and rewarding journey.
I am so happy I spent the last couple of months on me. Dina, Ted and Kevin were all such great sources of information (and still are) and have helped me gain a better understanding of what my body needs and how to fuel it. I feel like my workouts have gotten even better, I feel stronger, I am not as tired and lethargic as I used to be after a tough cardio workout, I am sleeping better and I am feeling more confident in the way I feel and look. There are no miracle pills in weight loss (and believe me I wish their was) and you get out what you put in to it but these three were key in my Lean Out Challenge Journey. It was hard work and there were challenges at times but if you are looking for something to help you get to the next level of you, this is it.”

“After being at Spark for a year and having already seen results, I wasn’t that optimistic on what additional results could be achieved with the Lean Out Challenge. That said, I decided to give it a shot. For the most part, my workouts were the same intensity as always. I was challenged to step outside of my comfort zone and lift heavier weights. From the nutrition side, I added in more calories. I went from eating 1200 calories a day to 1600 calories. I also increased my daily protein intake. A combination of all of these small adjustments helped me lose 5.3% body fat (14lbs of fat) and gain 2.9% muscle. I couldn’t be happier with these results. I feel leaner and stronger in just 8 weeks!”
